Getting started in Teller

A step-by-step guide to setting up your equity structure and getting your team onboard with Kwantor.

5 min read

Prerequisite: Set Up Your BV with Compatible Articles of Association

Before you can start using Kwantor's equity management platform Teller, your Dutch BV needs articles of association (statuten) that support profit participation rights. This is a one-time setup that enables the entire Kwantor structure.

Starting a new BV?

Incorporate your BV with Kwantor-compatible articles of association from the start. Download our model articles and hand them to your notary, or let us connect you with a notary that is already familiar with the Kwantor structure.

Already have a BV?

No problem — a small amendment to your existing articles of association is usually sufficient. Your notary can make this adjustment using our model articles as a reference.

Step 1: Create Your Account and Project

Getting started on Teller takes just a few minutes.

  1. Sign up for a free account at kwantor.com
  2. Create a project — this represents your company or venture on the platform
  3. Configure your participation plan — choose a standard configuration to get started quickly, or specify detailed selections for vesting schedules, leaver provisions, and token economics
  4. Create your tokens — set up your Profit Share Token (PST) for direct equity participation, and optionally an Option to PST Token (OPT) for option-based compensation

Your participation plan defines the rules of your equity structure: how tokens are distributed, how vesting works, and what happens when someone leaves.

Step 2: Onboard Your Team

With your project configured, it's time to bring people in.

  1. Invite team members — add founders, employees, advisors, and investors. Each person receives an invitation to join your project on Teller
  2. Collaborate in one place — once accepted, team members can view the project dashboard, track their assignments, and log their contributions
  3. Secure access — all accounts are protected with 2FA support for secure authentication

Whether you're onboarding a co-founder on day one or adding your tenth employee, the process is the same: invite, accept, and they're in.

Step 3: Create and Sign Assignment Agreements

Assignment agreements are the contracts between your company and each team member. They define what someone contributes and how they are rewarded.

Configure remuneration

For each assignment, you can combine multiple reward types:

  • PST (Profit Share Tokens) — fixed or hourly equity compensation
  • OPT (Option to PST Tokens) — option-based equity with an exercise price
  • Cash — traditional monetary compensation
  • Milestones — bonus rewards tied to specific deliverables
  • Per-unit bonuses — recurring or one-off bonuses based on output

Set vesting and leaver provisions

Each remuneration type can have its own vesting schedule — cliff periods, linear vesting, or custom schedules. Leaver provisions define what happens to unvested tokens if someone departs early.

Sign digitally

Once the agreement is ready, both parties sign it directly on the platform. You choose a signing method per contract — costs are charged at signing time and are not included in your subscription plan. Teller offers multiple signing options:

  • Mark as agreed — record mutual consent without a digital signature. Free, but carries minimal evidential weight
  • Simple Electronic Signature (SES) — a quick and easy digital signature, suitable for low-risk agreements (€0.99 excl. VAT)
  • Advanced Electronic Signature (AES) — includes identity verification via the itsme® app, providing strong evidential value. Recommended for equity compensation agreements (€6.93 excl. VAT)
  • Qualified Electronic Signature (QES) — the highest legal standing under eIDAS regulation, equivalent to a handwritten signature. Uses itsme® with a qualified signing certificate (€4.95 excl. VAT)
  • Sign outside Teller — prefer to sign on paper or with your own tooling? Download the PDF, sign externally, and upload the signed document back to Teller (free)

Good to know: Under Dutch law, most contracts are valid the moment both parties agree, regardless of form — a signature is not strictly required. However, for equity compensation agreements where the stakes are high, a stronger signature method is recommended as evidence in potential future disputes.

Step 4: Track Performance and Manage Rewards

Once agreements are signed, Teller becomes your central dashboard for monitoring everything.

Live cap table

Your dashboard shows a real-time cap table with all token holders, their allocations, vesting progress, and current value. Everyone can see exactly where they stand.

Time tracking and milestones

Team members log their hours and milestone progress directly on the platform. You get live visibility into contributions and deliverables.

Automated vesting

Vesting schedules execute automatically based on your configuration. No manual calculations, no spreadsheets — tokens vest on schedule and your cap table updates in real time.

Step 5: Pay Out Rewards

When it's time to distribute rewards, everything happens in one place.

Centralized payouts

View all pending payouts — from hourly PST earnings to milestone bonuses — in a single overview. Approve and execute payouts directly from your dashboard.

Full audit trail

Every bonus transaction is recorded on the distributed ledger. Sandbox projects use a testnet (periodically reset), while Business projects use the Hedera mainnet for an immutable, permanent record of all transactions. This gives all stakeholders full transparency and accountability.
